Looking for farm fresh eggs near you in Porter, OK? Our honor-system egg stand sits at the front of Porter & Prairie Family Farm, and it runs on the oldest system we know: trust.

If you’ve typed “farm fresh eggs near me” into your phone somewhere between Broken Arrow and Muskogee, there’s a good chance you drove right past us at 15527 S 385th E Ave in Porter.

Step by step

How the honor-system stand works

There’s no cashier, because there’s no register. Here’s how a stop goes:

1. Pull up to the stand

at the front of the farm. No need to come up the drive.

2. Pick out what you'd like

from the cooler and shelves.

3. Leave payment in the box.

We take cash or Venmo, using the QR code posted at the stand.

4. Bring back clean cartons

if you have them at home, and we'll reuse them.

When the stand is open

The stand is open Monday through Saturday, 6:30 AM to 9 PM. It’s closed on Sundays. Sunday is for church, family and a slower table, and the hens keep laying anyway.

Learn more about eggs

If you have ever wondered why one carton holds brown eggs and the next holds white, or what the grades and sizes on a store carton mean, our friends at LocalMilkMeatEggs put together a helpful guide to the different types of eggs. It is a good read with a cup of coffee and a fresh egg or two.

Where the eggs come from

Our roughly fifty laying hens live in a coop under the south awning of our shop and spend their days scratching and foraging.

Our kids gather and pack the eggs, and they will tell you, with some confidence, that they’re the real management.

Eggs are almost always on hand, though fifty hens sometimes lay slower than our neighbors buy. If you need a larger quantity, give us a call or a text before you come.

“Whenever possible, deal directly with a local farmer, gardener, or orchardist.”

Wendell Berry

Why a farm stand instead of a store?

Wendell Berry once wrote, “Whenever possible, deal directly with a local farmer, gardener, or orchardist.” We think he was right, and not only because the eggs are fresher. Buying from the farm down the road keeps a little of the food economy in the neighborhood. You know where your breakfast came from, and we know who we’re feeding.

Virgil spent four books of the Georgics on the idea that a farm answers the patient care of the one who tends it. An egg stand is a small version of that. Hens fed and watered every day, eggs gathered every morning, a box left open on trust. It isn’t complicated, and that’s rather the point.
